Irina and I with the Steif bear in the Kaufhaus des Westens, the largest department store in Europe. I looked for a brand new Otto, but couldn't find him.

During German division, this garden overlooked a Soviet airbase, so trespassing was forbidden and it was neglected. Our professor snuck in as a teenager, when it was filled with plants. He described it as it was then, saying, 'It was so like a fairytale, that if a ghost had appeared, I would not have wondered.'
